Welcome to The Boat & Anchor Inn

The Boat & Anchor Inn stands as a solid choice for travelers and locals seeking a genuine English pub experience set against the tranquil backdrop of the Bridgwater & Taunton Canal. Situated in Meads Crossing, Huntworth, just off the M5 motorway, this four-star inn balances rustic charm with convenient accessibility.

Guests consistently praise the warm, welcoming staff and the authentic atmosphere that brings the pub alive. From Stuart Windsor’s appreciative nod to the camper van overnight stay that supports charity, to Nathan Gardner’s commendation of the friendly reception and ease of access for motorhome visitors, the warmth felt here is unmistakable. It’s a place where camaraderie meets countryside calm.

The Boat & Anchor Inn excels in its culinary offerings. The traditional Sunday carvery receives widespread acclaim for being hearty, flavorful, and plentiful, with chef Toby often singled out for his welcoming presence. Whether it’s a family gathering or an impromptu stopover, diners can expect freshly prepared breakfasts and satisfying meals complemented by a well-selected bar menu. The Jack Rabbit Merlot enjoyed during a leisurely canal-side lunch perfectly illustrates the pub’s ability to combine good food and drink with scenic surroundings.

While the pub’s location near the M5 and a nearby railway line introduces some ambient noise, this proximity is a trade-off for excellent transport links to Bridgwater town and beyond. It makes The Boat & Anchor Inn a practical haven for travelers en route to Plymouth ferry or exploring Somerset’s countryside. With free Wi-Fi, pet and kid-friendly policies, ample parking, and a smoke-free environment, it caters thoughtfully to a broad range of guests.

There is a modest simplicity here that invites genuine connection—be it a quiet moment by the canal or lively conversation with locals at the bar. The Boat & Anchor Inn is more than just a stop; it is a place to unwind, recharge, and feel part of a community rooted in tradition yet open to all.

Lovely pub , very friendly staff . Stayed over for a family party . Wonderful breakfast all cooked fresh for us . Lovely location by the canal . The motorway noise is apparent but that’s only what you’d expect . Sadly couldn’t stay for the Sunday carvery but from What I hear it’s well worth a further visit .

Cracking reception from staff. Beautiful setting beside canal. Only overshadowed by close proximity to m5 and railway. But on the flip this makes it easily accessible. £20 a night for the motorhome and 20 min walk into town. Would definitely visit again for convenience.

We visited here from the Bridgewater and Taunton canal on Sunday in August 25 for a Sunday roast. Although we had heard some negative reviews about the pub were not disappointed at all with the friendly welcome we received. Our Sunday roast from the carvery was excellent, tasty and plentiful. Enjoyed a nice bottle of Jack Rabbit merlot with our lunch too. Not the prettiest of locations with the M5 fairly close by, but if we were down this way again we would definitely drop in for another visit.

Carvery was excellent, chef Toby was very welcoming, all other staff made us very welcome. Made the 3 hrs traffic jam on the m5 much more bearable,
